American Transcendentalism - COL275 is an introductory level course in Comparative Literature. It counts as an elective requirement for science majors, but should be of interest to students in the humanities as well. There are no prerequisites for this course other than in interest in dreams and in exploring the “new yet unapproachable America” celebrated in the metaphysical riot of this nation’s greatest literature (by authors such as Emerson, Hawthorne, Poe, and Melville). This course will introduce students to the history of idealist philosophy that influenced the 19th century literary movement known as American transcendentalism.
COL275 is offered on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-9 p.m. on UB’s North Campus. The course registration number is: 210515.
Questions? Please contact Jonathan Murphy in the Department of Comparative Literature located at 638 Clemens Hall, North Campus or call (716) 645-2066. You may visit them on the web at http://www.complit.buffalo.edu/.
