Career Conversations in NYC
Make the most of your winter break! Career Conversations: A Student-Alumni Career Networking Night is designed to link established UB alumni with current UB students and recent graduates who are interested in launching their careers in the metro New York area. As opposed to a more formal, job-oriented career fair, the event facilitates informal discussions, networking and career information gathering. This event takes places on January 6, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. A variety of career fields will be represented. Jobsapalooza Job & Internship Fair
UB Career Services also hosts Jobsapalooza and this year there are 3 events in 3 different cities across New York! Jobsapalooza will be held in Buffalo on Tuesday, January 6 from 4-7 pm, Rochester on Thursday, January 8 from 4-7 pm, and Long Island (more information to come). This event allows students to meet with employers from local areas who are looking for potentional employees and interns. infoTECH Niagara Shadowing Program
Western New York’s leading IT Professional Association, infoTech Niagara, brings you our fourth annual winter intersession Shadowing Program. Students will be able to shadow a staff member throughout the day on either January 8 or 9, 2009. Spend the entire day with a professional to get a more complete view of a day-in-the-life. Believe it or not the Fall 2008 semester is coming to a close. Hopefully you all are studying for your final exams and you are enjoying the last days of classes. Please be aware of these important dates as the semester winds down.
- Friday, December 5, 2008 - Last day of Fall 2008 classes. Also, last day for continuing UB students to register for at least one course for the Spring 2009 semester without a fee (a $40 administrative fee and a late payment fee). If you are not returning to UB in the upcoming Spring 2009 semester, be sure that you consult with an Academic Advisor to file the appropriate paperwork to let the University know of your change in status.
- Monday, December 8 - Monday, December 15, 2008 - Final Exams week. Be sure that you log on to MyUB to view your Final Exam Schedule and consult with your instructors for any updated information regarding your exams.
- Tuesday, December 16, 2008 - Winter Recess Begins. Make note that Spring 2009 classes begin on Monday, January 12, 2009.
- Thursday, December 25, 2008 - Christmas holiday. UB closed. BIRD and on-line services not available.
- Monday, December 29, 2008 - Fall 2008 grades available on UB transcripts.

American Transcendentalism - COL275 is an introductory level course in Comparative Literature. It counts as an elective requirement for science majors, but should be of interest to students in the humanities as well. There are no prerequisites for this course other than in interest in dreams and in exploring the “new yet unapproachable America” celebrated in the metaphysical riot of this nation’s greatest literature (by authors such as Emerson, Hawthorne, Poe, and Melville). This course will introduce students to the history of idealist philosophy that influenced the 19th century literary movement known as American transcendentalism.
COL275 is offered on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-9 p.m. on UB’s North Campus. The course registration number is: 210515.
