The Department of Linguistics at the University at Buffalo is offering a Teaching Internship for the Spring 2009 semester, which places UB undergraduate students in one of the Buffalo Public Schools as a Teacher’s aide or tutor, to work with children on developing their language and literacy skills. This internship is open to students from any major or grade level, who are native or near-native speakers of English. For three credits, interns work 8-10 hours a week, in one of the public schools. Interns can be placed in an early childhood school, an elementary school, a middle school, or a high school; the children in the schools include Spanish-English bilinguals, inner-city children, and international students.

Stay-Up UB is a 12 hour dance marathon. It is an annual initiative for the UB Community to continue building pride and tradition while participating in a philanthropy event to raise money for local and global charities. Each year, the money raised from Stay-Up UB through individual, group and team fundraising as well as department and corporate sponsors will benefit a select charitable organization. This year the beneficiary is the Hunters Hope Foundation. The foundation is committed to increasing awareness and funding research for Krabbe Disease.
In addition to a huge dance floor with a DJ and live performances, there will be themed dance hours, UB group performances, free food & drinks, free giveaways, contests, and many activities to keep students entertained for the whole 12 hours. Students are encouraged to register as teams, dance the night away, have fun and enjoy the activities all night long!
