Be In Class…

It’s more than just knowing where the buildings are…it’s also important to know how far apart the buildings are and what is the best way to get there. These things are most important when planning your class schedule each semester so that you are sure you have enough time between classes. The best advice is to plan breaks in between classes so that you do not get delayed and miss class.
TIP: As a general rule of thumb you can get from any one building on the Academic Spine to any other building on the Spine in 10 minutes. Occasionally you may have a class in what is called Fillmore or MFAC- this is the classroom portion of the Ellicott complex where many students reside. It takes a little longer to get here from the spine (about 20 minutes) whether you walk or take the quick and easy shuttle.
Few undergraduate students have classes on the South Campus (with the exception of Architecture, Biomedical Sciences, Exercise Science, Environmental Design, Nursing, and Occupational Therapy majors). NTR108 (a popular gen-ed science course) is also usually on the South Campus.
Now that you know where all the buildings are, look at your class schedule and make sure you know where your classes are and how to get there!
Be Aware . . .
Do you have a checkstop? A checkstop is used by a UB office to “freeze” a student’s records and prevent future enrollment activity until the student has met the requirements for its removal. Financial checkstops particularly serve the additional purpose of prohibiting other University services such as the receipt of a diploma, certification services, or transcript release until the student has satisfied the financial obligation. Log on to MyUB now and be sure that you do not have a checkstop on your account!
Be Excited…
Be sure to join us for the UBThisSummer Lecture Series, where internationally-recognized faculty will share their excitement about topics in such areas as humanities, social sciences and sciences. The lectures are FREE and will enlighten you on topics of personal, community and world interest. For more information on UBThisSummer contact 716-829-6019 or visit http://ubthissummer.buffalo.edu.

Calling all Mentors!!!!!!
The UB Scholars Mentoring Program is designed to help freshmen Scholars with their adjustment to the university by pairing them with an upper level Scholar who will serve as a resource person.
Scholar Mentors will help first-year Scholars with their transition from high school to higher education by providing students with information on how to adapt to campus life and how to become an active member of the university community.
If you are a freshman Scholar and would like a Mentor, please send an email to the UB Scholars staff at: ub-scholars@buffalo.edu. Include your full name, UB person number and intended major in the body of the email.
If you are an upper division Scholar and would like to serve as a Mentor, you must complete the Online Mentor Application Form.
Keep in mind that Mentors must:
• Be a UB Scholar with a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0
• Have completed at least 1 year of study
• Make a commitment for a full academic year
• Attend a Mentor training session
• Attend special events developed for Mentors and Mentees
We would like to take this time to remind incoming UB Scholars that there will be a Scholars Informational Session on the 1st day of Freshman Orientation. These sessions will be held in 225 Natural Sciences Complex (NSC) at 4:30pm – 5:30pm.
The purpose of the informational session is to acquaint UB Scholars with program staff members and to provide both students and parents with updated information on the UB Scholars Program. Staff will discuss the requirements students must meet to maintain the UB Scholars scholarship and also review the services offered to UB Scholars.
If you have any questions about the UB Scholars Program Informational Session, please contact us via email at ub-scholars@buffalo.edu.
See you there!!!
